What's the particular error message you're getting? We haven't introduced a 
Java 6 dependency consciously and might be able to eliminate it.

I have to admit that I'm now on Snow Leopard on my primary machine, and as such 
only have Java 6 installed :-) Lower versions aren't even an option anymore, 
although I might try to compile against a 1.5 rt.jar to see what falls out... I 
also have an iMac G5 with Leopard laying around.

FWIW, SoyLatte should work on PPC Macs and you could use it to compile Rhino.
