I should remind you that when I asked "Position relative to what?" you said 
"The 
absolute position in the page."  That would usually mean the page the image is 
in, whereas what you want to be here is a little more amorphous...

So we come back to the "position relative to what?" question.  Top left corner 
of what, exactly?  The browser window?  The toplevel frame from the same domain 
as the frame embedding the image?  The toplevel "content" window which is on 
the 
parent chain of the window containing the image?  Something else?

It really helps to have a precise problem statement when asking a question like 
this, since the answer rather depends on these little details.

P.S.  I do have to wonder about the circumstances in which you'd want the 
coordinates relative to something other than the window the image is in...
