Scanning the list, the only threads in the past 3 months whose subjects
would have made any sense to me as layout QA are the one on UA strings
and the one on good first bugs. So m.d.platform would have struck me as
obviously not the right place for someone like me to hang out.

Which is fine. That's not what m.d.platform is for -- it's for platform
engineers to broadcast to each other. And I, not being a platform
engineer, would not have belonged there.

Is dev.layout any better though, as it is now? Because there seems to be
hardly any traffic there that would interest anyone, as far as I can tell.

There were a lot more interesting discussions there historically. They seem
to have died down in late 2009 / early 2010. A key question would be if that's
because there's less interesting discussions to have there or because on a
relatively low-traffic list, the signal-to-noise level was driven too close
to zero by the spam pandemic for anyone to bother using it. There were a lot
more posts in 2008 and earlier.
