Every so often the ldap_unbind_s will
cause a crash. This occurs even when checking the ldapHandle for NULL before
calling the unbind.
Has anyone heard of this scenario, and if
so, what is the resolution?

against the Mozilla 5.17 LDAP C SDK with the same results.
