You can use the -no-remote command-line option or the MOZ_NO_REMOTE environment variable (set it to anything) to disable it.

The reason is to make it easier for users to run Firefox... Multiple instances can't use the same profile. Most distributions ship customized start scripts anyway with a similar effect.


FWIW, this newsgroup isn't great for this question, maybe dev-apps-firefox would be better.
