It's not readily supported, but you could hack it. nsIChromeRegistry.convertChromeURL will convert a chrome URI into its underlying URI. You can typically then QI this URI to nsIFileURL or nsIJARURI and get the information you need from that. But as you can see, that's a little hacky.
