Hi all,

Yesterday we had a discussion on IRC and concluded that it would be best to restrict the "description" field in the manifest to 250 characters (the current limit is 1024). The rationale is that we can then use the field to populate various tooltips on launch targets, fill the short description field on the marketplace, etc.

A longer description of the app feels fairly store-specific and may include HTML, images, and so on; and thus it is best to omit such a field from the manifest.

The repercussion of this change is that it breaks existing manifests, but luckily we only have around a hundred apps on the marketplace right now, of which only 8 exceed the 250 character limit. So, in this particular instance I think we can deal with the change fairly efficiently.

It does bring up the larger question of how we will deal with changes that we may have to make in the future. I'd love to hear on thoughts on the matter!

Cheers,
-Anant
