Also, it's not the case that the Metro look is actually used throughout Windows
8 Phone apps. See how much variation there is in the market:

Also, top paid apps (a handful actually use the Metro style - and the more you
go back along the long tail, the more of a hodgepodge it becomes):

Seems like the only requirement there is that the icon is square (which is
great, because they are easy to adapt to other platforms:)).
And again, look at the top games (same icons as iOS in most cases - sans the
rounded corners, which supports my argument of letting the platform deal with
