If you're using systemd, for example on CentOS 7, I've found that using libnss_myhostname works really well (avoids having to edit /etc/hosts), and makes the name lookup for localhost match your local hostname:
To use it, edit the /etc/nsswitch.conf file and make sure your hosts line looks something like: hosts: files myhostname dns More likely, though, they're just unstable tests. The Replication ones tend to get stuck on drain (previously discussed, possibly open issue, might be related to thrift), and the others are very sensitive to performance characteristics of your environment, because they follow the very unstable pattern of: "time(action) -> A, change some setting, time(action) -> B, assert B << A". I think we've seen cases where malformed /etc/hosts entries can cause those tests to fail. A quick check would be to make sure you have 127.0.0.1 for localhost and IP addr for the FQDN and short-name.
