I see what you mean. I think this is probably the case. when we timeout we kill
the test process because they are deemed to have crashed in some way. 

Refactoring the junit test runner to do a cleaner shutdown would be a very
complex process indeed. Maybe you could add some signal handler to do explicit
cleanup for your tests,
