I ran this by a couple of the engineers here at work. The conclusion we
came to is that all the words that correctly describe the group have be
used already in software terminology. The best suggestions were to use
'accessories' or to make up a new word. A manufactured word will be the
same in all languages, so there's no translation issues. Take 'Blog',
for instance. I doubt that it's any different no matter what the language.

Hi Mathias
My concern about addons is that this term is already used for a very
special though important kind of "extension". But there are other
potential extensions of OOo that e.g. can be deployed as a package and
that are not (technically spoken) addons.
but addons could become a generic term ?
maybe, but why should we used addon, a already used term for a special
kind of extension using a specifc API.
Extensions is a perfectly describing term for all the stuff we have in
mind.
- UNO components in different languages (add-ons, calc add-ins,
filter, ...)
- macro libraries (Basic, Java, JavaScript, Python, ...)
- document templates (deployed as UNO package) -> where of course UNO
package is the wrng term, we have to find a better one
- galleries (deplyoed as packages)
- and maybe others
We should search for a name describing that best.
- a not already used term in the area of OO
- covering all different aspects
- intuitive and easy to understand for the user
We talk about things which can be seen on top of an existing office
installation, they are optional, can be deployed at any time later
after the installation. Think, what would be the best description for
that?
-Juergen
would be 'package(s)' suitable ?
btw, need tobe understandable by a maximum of people
