no, the latest available developer builds or RC candidates of the SDK
should be fine but you can update to OOo2.0 and the corresponding SDK or
RC candidate.
As i mentioned a new native installer based SDK version is coming soon.

I'd be much grateful if someone could tell me shortly about the steps
I should take to build the SDK. My goal is to try compiling on Mac OS
X QuantLibAddin Calc add-in

currently
running on Linux/Windows only.
