nothing to do with page settings as in MsWord.
So I cannot imagine how changing a page style would not be reflected on
all relevant pages of the document.... Only if you make a .doc in
Writer. Then you run into problems that have to do with trouble in
translating the OOo way of page formatting in that of MsWord ...
Is this the case?

There is nothing wrong with your code.
It changes the properties of one page style.
Have a look at how Writer works with page styles. See the Help for that.
After that you understand you have to change the settings of all page
styles used in the document.
