Hi all,
I posted this on comp.openoffice.questions a few days ago. Maybe somebody on
this list can confirm that this is a bug in which case I'll file a report
(if one doesn't exist already).

I believe I have found a bug in openoffice's mail merge routine (OOo version
3.1.0 - running on Debian/testing). If someone can replicate the problem
then I'll file a bug report.

Here's the bug. Mail Merge losses formatting information applying to
individual fields (fonts, italics, etc.) if the fields in a template are
separated by only 0 or 1 space. If the fields are separated by 2 or more
spaces and if the formatting desired (specific font or font style) carries
over from the field to the neighbouring space, then the formatting
information is retained. The loss of formating information takes place
between end of Step 6 Edit document and the end of Step 7 Personalize
document. Formating is correct after executing Step 6 and incorrect (i.e.
lost) after Step 7.

To replicate this problem just create a template linked to a small database
and insert 3 or 4 fields. Highlight each field one by one and assign them
various fonts or font properties. Make sure that they are separated by no
more than a single space (or no space at all). Run the mail merge wizard.
Check the result after step 6 and things should look correct. After step 7
the formatting is lost.

I hope that's clear.
Cheers,
Jonathan
