I haven't thought this through completely, but I was thinking of a list of directories that the user could specify, rather than a fixed ArgoUML-specific location. For example, the AndroMDA profiles get stored in the .maven repository, so I'd like to be able to just point ArgoUML there rather than having to copy the profiles or explicitly import them. The reason I'm thinking a search list rather than a single directory is that users might have multiple sources of profiles. If you haven't played with MagicDraw or some of the other commercial tools, it would definitely be worth downloading an evaluation copy to see how they handle this and weigh the advantages/disadvantages of various implementation models.
