Once I have all the projects downloaded once I just keep up to date regularly by rightclick->Team->UpdateToHead with all projects selected.
I update on a regular basis, not just when there is a release. If you plan to work on the code you need to regularly be aligned with other develoeprs input so I'd have thought the same was needed for you. I never take much notice of what the version number says so long as the update and build works. If you don't see the property panels it looks like a defect. Do you have the argouml-core-umlpropertypanels project loaded? What launcher are you using?
