My thought is that the "instant reveng" function would basically replace the
model for the class that you're currently editing, rather than trying to
incrementally update individual operations.

When I import source into my project, I don't have any expectation that it
will keep my changes in sync with the original source file.  So replacing
the model for the class I'm editing is probably fine.

It would be nice to have both approaches since there are times when you just
want to do a quick operation edit, and other times when you want the tools
to get out of the way of this great idea that you have and just let you get
on with it. Really, anything that makes it easier and faster to create
models is all to the good.  And ultimately what we're shooting for is a tool
that makes developers more productive, and makes what they do more
transparent to others.
