I *think* it will be much better once we're using 1.x.x versions. The two things we need to make it work are the full range of semantic versions (that is, 1.0.0 and higher), and always building against the minimum version of a dependency, rather than the latest snapshot. But as you say, the true test will be when we start rolling out bug fix releases.
