Ben Zahler created ARIES-2242:
---------------------------------

Summary: Offer a SPI Fly dynamic bundle with ASM embedded privately
                 Key: ARIES-2242
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/ARIES-2242
             Project: Aries
          Issue Type: Improvement
          Components: SPI Fly
            Reporter: Ben Zahler

{{org.apache.aries.spifly.dynamic.bundle}} (1.3.8) imports
{{{}org.objectweb.asm{}}}, {{org.objectweb.asm.commons}} and
{{org.objectweb.asm.util}} ({{{}[9.10,10){}}}), so whoever deploys SPI Fly has
to deploy ASM bundles too, and those export ASM to
everything in the framework.

In our large Apache Felix based-setup (Adobe AEM) that gets complex. Other
bundles our team does not control may also export ASM and bundles import ASM,
often optionally and with their own ranges. Apache Tika parsers,
oak-blob-cloud-azure and oak-segment-azure, for example, all import
{{{}org.objectweb.asm;resolution:=optional;version="[9.3,10)"{}}}.

For SPI Fly, ASM is an implementation detail. Nothing outside SPI Fly needs to
see the ASM it uses. The framework extension variant already embeds ASM, but we
can't use it, since installing or updating it needs a framework restart.

Would you consider publishing a variant of the dynamic bundle with ASM embedded
privately, next to the existing one?
