As I haven’t written this before: I think that it should go into
master as we have discovered that we’ll need more Metadata-breaking
changes.

Right now the review is for Master. I think there is some motivation
to
push it into the release branch (as it is a "breaking" issue for
reverse-compatibility) rather than master, but I'm not sure.
Please reply if you have a strong opinion either way.
