AsterixDB started incubating a little more than a year ago (2015-02-28).
Since then we have shipped 2 incubating Apache releases for AsterixDB
and Hyracks:
- Apache AsterixDB 0.8.7-incubating (2015-10-22) and Hyracks
0.2.16-incubating (2015-09-22)
- Apache AsterixDB 0.8.8-incubating (2016-02-26) and Hyracks
0.2.17-incubating (2016-02-26)
The 0.8.7 release provided licensing information for the source
artifacts, and the 0.8.8 release provided licensing information for both
source and binary artifacts. While the LICENSE and NOTICE files for all
artifacts are not yet perfect [1][2], we have improved our understanding
significantly and we were able to check the last open item (Verify
distribution rights) on the incubation status page [3] off with the
0.8.8 release.
The AsterixDB community today is open and very active and distributed
over several continents. Individual merit is honored in discussions, but
discussions are never exclusive or hostile. Also, the AsterixDB
community has grown, and Chris Hillery (2015-10-20) and Heri Ramampiaro
(2016-01-16) have both been added as committers since incubation began.
It seems to me that the AsterixDB community is in pretty good shape and
would be able to sustain and govern itself as a TLP.
Thoughts? Concerns?
