[~davidrad] HBase has a [documented 
guide|https://hbase.apache.org/book.html#hbase.versioning] for handling 
deprecations, which is referenced very often in tickets handling the 
introduction of deprecations or removing deprecated APIs. I'm not sure if there 
is something similar documented for Atlas.
