With the recent shard-to-instance renaming effort we have user visible
inconsistencies in our commands/help/error messages: in some cases we use
"shards", in other "instances". Need to completely purge "shard*" terminology
from the client.
[~jonboulle] commented: This'll require a bit of user (re-)education, too, and
probably a deprecation cycle
