I'm not sure how Castle can bring attention while people doesn't know it exists.
that's the first step of course!
* write an article and get it posted on TSS or somewhere similar
* make noise on [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* ask Tetsuya to help you out (if you don't know him, he's behind the apache newsletter and newsblog and one of the few people around who enjoys stuff like publicity management (at least I think he does :-D); I CCed him)
* release a beta and send announcement to the places where those announcements go
* get slashdotted in the process
* blog about it, link to it from blogs
* set up a website and get a link to it in prominent places
* send hand-written e-mail to people you know or know a little that you think might be interested.
* regularly post updates when you improve things to [EMAIL PROTECTED], weblog, ...
etc etc. "If you code it they will come" is not true, but when people come, its important the "5 minute test" succeeds: within 5 minutes of clicking on a link, get a basic idea of what the project is about, download and install it, run an example, understand the example, and get an idea how to learn more in the case of being interested.
There's a few books on tech product marketing for tech-minded people in the library over here (not that I've read any of 'em), but I'm sure there's some people around who might have.
