It might be worse than that.  The Resolver won't be cached if applyAliases() 
returns a new instance since the cache is based on identity.  Either aliases 
need to be pushed down into the resolver, or setSchema() and friends have to 
cache the alias transformation and use the result for accessing the resolver.

A Perf test that covers aliases is a good idea.
