Sean Busbey commented on AVRO-1847:
-----------------------------------

it occurs to me that changing this to match the convertToLogicalType side of
things (i.e. throwing AvroRuntimeException instead of ClassCastException in the
case of a CCE) will be non-backwards compatible.

I'd still like to see them match. I'm happy to apply the matching version to
the branch with 1.9-SNAP in it and then modify the backport to 1.8-SNAP to
maintain the current behavior.

> Version 1.8.0 has added the support of logical types. A conversion class
> (Conversions.DecimalConversion) has also been added for decimal type.
> However, the IDL compiler still uses ByteBuffer for decimal types, which is
> not the same behaviour as data, time or timestamp type (added in AVRO-1684).
