It didn't. After running the standalone job (even multiple times before I started this thread) I still couldn't run the seed job from master branch because it was expecting changes from my branch.
I created an issue for this to document this better: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/BEAM-4770. I left it unassigned - feel free to take this.
