I have to finalize the patch by cleaning up (re-adding) tests but before spending time in a hurry I would like to know if the idea as enough consensus to get on 4.9, otherwise I can work on it for 4.10. It is a client side change, no read protocol changes, which I would like to postpone to future releases.
