In https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CALCITE-1753 <https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CALCITE-1753> we are discussing making ProjectJoinTransposeRule more aggressive in the expressions it pushes down. (Previously we couldn’t do this because we didn’t know which expressions preserved nulls.)
