That's a lot slower than I'd expect, but I have never built a "large" Jekyll site. I'm not opposed to non-Jekyll -- we aren't hosting at GitHub, so Jekyll isn't really a requirement. Perhaps it is time for Ari to chime in since he's used Jekyll more.
