This might be the issue. I suspect the remote repo was down briefly and the 
failure got cached by Maven. A bit drastic way of solving it is deleting the 
entire local Maven repo:

rm -rf ~/.m2/repository/*

Or you can try deleting individual artifacts that are causing trouble.
