Agree with your proposal. I'm not sure if there are any cons to the changes as 
I see related changes for disks.

It's a great idea which is implemented already on some of the other
platforms.
It can make a big difference when pushing a lot of traffic, such as VoIP
etc.
Hope it gets implemented.
