Out of curiosity: what value does var user; get initially?
There is no response from other developers. Should I file a bug report so it does not get missing? Would anybody try to recreate the error if I attached the simplest project I was able to cut down?

If you provide a very simple testcase I will add it to the Anteater test suite.
It would be best if you could file a bugzilla report containing the files.
