This may well be the case that the problem is caused by the maven version. I have 3.2.1. Anyway, somehow an artifact compiled with JDK 1.6 ends up in the classpath and cannot be read by the executing 1.5 JVM. But I do not think that we need to worry about this too much in respect of the 1.4 release.
