Regarding proceeding for GSoC

Respected sir,
Recently, I came to know about GSoC. I am a newbie and wish to learn how stuff 
works. I am also ambitious to participate in the GSoC 2018. Presently I am 
accessioned with C programming language. Can you guide me regarding how my 
approach should be?
