Today we had a number of items to discuss, but spent almost the entire time talking about ALCs. There were several things discussed around ALCs: * The two recent requests to create ALCs (Ghana, Islamabad) that have gone unanswered. We realized that nobody is really currently owning this program, and so everyone expects someone else to do it. Andrew Wetmore and Gavin McDonald volunteered to do some digging here and get that program back on the rails, with documentation around the process for onboarding, so that that’s not relying on one person to be there. * We’d REALLY like to hear from existing ALCs as to what they’re doing. This isn’t about mandatory reporting, or checking up that you’re Doing Stuff Right. Rather, it’s about sharing best practices, celebrating your successes, and inspiring other groups to start up and do more of the same. The recent blog post from ALC Taipei - https://news.apache.org/foundation/entry/beyond-the-hardware-hub-how-alc-taipei-turned-computex-2026-into-a-milestone-for-the-apache-way - was awesome. We’d love to see these stories from all of the ALCs. How can we help make that happen? * Some ALCs are strongly supported by local businesses. Others not so much. What can we (ComDev) do to help? Would it be useful to have a small budget to buy pizza and drinks to attract attendees? Sample presentation? Speaker travel? Tell us what you need, so that we can ask the Board for budget to make that happen. * There is an ALC channel (#alc) on ASF Slack. If you’re part of an ALC, we’d love to have your voice there, just telling us what you’re up to. If you’re *not* an ASF member and need an invite, please ask me, or respond here, and we’ll try to get you invited to that channel. * There was some discussion of using our contacts at Universities to set up ALCs around Universities, as an onramp for new contributors to become aware of the ASF and our projects. This solves several problems, the biggest of which is that we need more young people, with young ideas and passion, in our project communities, and where better to get that than at Universities!
