FOUND THE CULPRIT:
Turns out the change to having thread pools is why this doesn't work. Adding
the thread pool to the client activity will allow this to work again. However,
we should find a way to encapsulate this into another class if this is even
possible, since this will break existing methods. I don't think this will
require a minor release, but this should be fixed before 2.3.0 is released.
