After inquiring about the above error message, and linking
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/13403295/why-after-increasing-max-dbs-open-do-replications-still-fail-with-increase-ma
in IRC, I was pointed to:

And told that the exception catching there is over-broad for the error message
it produces.
The error message should be correct for the situation.
