Like code-level and design level changes. Well, the new "fast" dictionary module should solve one of the biggest issues, the bottleneck of the dictionary lookup. Using UIMA-AS allows for scaleout, in combination with the fast dictionary can allow very fast processing. Maybe it's not a feature per se, and maybe it will come from an outside project, but I think infrastructure that makes it easy to get a highly parallel and very fast version of ctakes up and running would be a nice addition. (By the way, that's just one interesting example that came to mind, not necessarily the most important or highest priority!)
