+1 (binding)

I checked:
- signature/checksum
- NOTICE and LICENSE seem to be in order
- Verified signature/checksum for maven convenience binaries
- Tried my script on the nexus binaries but...not sure it worked. Will look
again later if I can.
- tested (both tests and package) with java 8 and javea 11
- tested with java 17, which failed (expected, and correct behavior)

The readme still mentions the "strict" profile in build instructions, which
is no longer relevant. We should remove reference to that in the future (at
least for the 4.0 release). Not a reason for an RC2, IMHO, but something to
fix in the event we need an RC2.
