I think this is a fantastic idea. Speaking of maven, any chance of using Ant. Since you are talking about IDE integration, I think Ant is integrated into Eclipse better thant maven. So while I am not trying to say that we should abandon maven, could we pick up Ant support? I would certainly be willing to help in this area.

It was mainly due to Java 1.4 compatibility to make sure the build doesn't fail even if a user runs the build in Java 1.4.
