With the new distribution framework, MirrorBrain (http://www.mirrorbrain.org), magnet links could be generated automatically. I think it would be easy to implement. The feature is tracked here: http://mirrorbrain.org/issues/issue38 Once magnet links can be generated, they'll also be included into Metalinks. A related idea is to autogenerate torrents (http://mirrorbrain.org/issues/issue37). A contribution would be highly welcome, be it in code, money, servers or pizza! :-) The Metalinks linked on the page that you reference are also obsolete. Metalinks are already generated in realtime nowadays, so the links could be adapted. For instance, http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p/OOo_2.4.0_Win32Intel_install_en-US.exe.metalink.html should refer to the respective link on http://download.services.openoffice.org/files/stable/3.2.0/ or just generally send the user to that page.
