At one point, Slavery was legal. At one point colonialism was legal and still is. At one point women not been allowed to vote was legal and a core principle in some countries.
Right now as we speak, war is legal. Is that correct? Does that make it right or correct? Maybe these examples and analogies are far fetched and off topic but that may trigger some thoughts.
