Hi says a lurker,
Welcome Garry! I'm lurking too until I have some free time help.
I very much like the idea/approach but have a question. Taking each pillar in
turn is likely the only tractable route but it does seem to mean that inclusion
becomes the primary goal and that the work on that pillar will naturally place
constraints and/or requirements on the others when they get their time in the
limelight.
I definitely understand the concern. My perspective is that consciously
choosing a small focus now is important in a practical sense. We're a
volunteer-driven community, and we also often will have newcomers show
up in this list to ask questions or add tangents.
Having a clear focus for the current time makes it easier for the
volunteers with time to actively work on this topic, and then iterate.
It can also help with including newcomers in this work: the IDEA space
is large, so as new folks show up on this list, having a clear
explanation of What We're Doing Now really helps - along with a roadmap
for the future.
Elsethread, thanks Georg for the links of past surveys; reviewing the
barriers to entry we actually saw from past respondents is a good place
to start quantifying specific inclusion areas or topics to focus on.
