Hello everybody,

I am a happy Openoffice user since about a year or two now, but today I
was nearly despairing:

I am using OpenOffice 1.1.0, german version for win32.

I am currently formatting my thesis which I have stored in separate
files (one file per chapter). Naturally, I need to chage the page
numbers for each file as the starting number is always increasing.

Using the standard feature does not work, as a "correction +70" (which I
will arrive at) wont work at all, as the chapter in question does not
have 70 pages.

I found the solution to the problem here:

http://www.wernerroth.de/staroffice/dokus/diplom.html#Seitennummer_aendern

Basically, its the following

put cursor at first line on the page.

format -> absatz (? using the german version)
textfluss:
(+) umbrche zulassen, typ: seite, position: davor
(+) mit seitenvorlage typ: standard, seitennummer: <insert number here>

I love the documentation as it allowed me to get things done very fast
(especially head lines and foot lines and what else), but this is
something which was probably not easier to do in MS Word, but at least
it was more visible.

So, I suggest adding this to the help file system at least if not
changing the silly way correction works for page numbering (and it is a
bit silly in my opinion - but then I dont know the source code and there
might be a perfectly good reason for this).
Or at least an addition to the faqs on openoffice.org could be of use.

Other than that, keep up the good work and I will promote OpenOffice
nevertheless (got a few people to migrate already, more will follow).

Cheers,

Claus Kick
