IN MEMORY OF GERRY RODERICK SINGLETON January 17, 1945 – May 12, 2007
OBITUARY Gerry Singleton died suddenly at the Humber River Regional (York-Finch) Hospital on Saturday, May 12, 2007. He was the husband of Irena (Sutherland); father of Jerith Sykes (Donald) and Renee Singleton (Jason Cliff). He was the proud grandfather of Natalie Cliff-Singleton and of an expected grandson. Gerry is survived by his brother, Ross (Arla Roussain) of Thunder Bay, Ontario, and by many in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. Son of the late Roderick and Rosanna May (Bradley) Singleton, Gerry grew up in Willowdale where he attended McKee Public School and Earl Haig Collegiate. An alumnus of Ryerson University, Gerry graduated in Electrical Engineering in 1969. He worked for Canadian General Electric, babysitting the newly installed computer-radio system at the Jarvis Street Toronto Police Headquarters and later worked for Sun Microsystems. While raising his children, Gerry, who was gifted with a beautiful singing voice, became interested in performing and soon joined church choirs and local amateur groups such as the Toronto Opera Repertoire and Coro Verdi. Gerry was a loving and sensitive man, gentled by middle age. He was outstanding in the nursing care he gave to his mother-in-law when dying of cancer in his home and in the compassion shown to his own mother during her lengthy illness. In Gerry's memory, the family would appreciate donations to the Heart and Stroke Fund or to the Freeman Centre for Palliative Care, North York General Hospital, 4001 Leslie Street, Toronto, ON, M2K 1E1. The family especially wishes to thank Irene's brother, Joseph Sutherland; Gerry's brother and his wife; his cousin, Beverley Bailey; and Irene's co-workers for their many kindnesses and support during this time of bereavement.
