I think from a user standpoint this makes sense. A lot of people seem

Comments?

What are the maintenance implications? Will it be clear on the building
a PDF side that the Math part included in the Writer Guide is
essentially a separate document? On the Wiki, it's easy... but outside
of the Wiki?

I've been looking into using linked sections for some of the material (the OOo equivalent of "includes"). There is a lot of material shared between the Getting Started book and the other books, including part of the Math chapter.

In the past I've been reluctant to use linked sections because they are a bit tricky for groups of people to maintain (many of the people who contribute to the user guides are not experts in the use of Writer's more esoteric features), but I think the time has come for us to start doing so. I'm working on some instructions for others to follow, which I will also use as the basis for a tutorial for general consumption. Don't expect anything on this until March at the earliest, though.

The above is not necessarily an argument for having the Math Guide duplicated as a chapter in the Writer Guide, but just to say that it would be no more of a maintenance drama than some of the other shared material.
