Hitting backspace beyond last character causes LOUD BEEP

This issue was reported before as
https://issues.apache.org/activemq/browse/SMX4KNL-137 and although it's marked
as 'WontFix' it was fixed at some point.
However, the switch to the gogo shell seems to have reintroduced it.
Its an extremely annoying issue because when you hit 'backspace' once too many
on the console your machine will beep loudly. Switching off the sound has no
effect, as I suspect its using the 'system beep'. Especially if you're in a
room with other people its distracting and embarrassing.
