Hello Fineract Community,
My name is Minh, and I am a university student interested in participating in
Google Summer of Code 2026 with Apache Fineract.
I recently started exploring the Fineract codebase and documentation. The
project idea “Create a new backend for front end component (Self-Service API
POC)” caught my attention because it involves designing a service layer that
exposes APIs for consumer applications such as account balance viewing,
transaction initiation, and loan applications.
I understand from the project description that this idea is currently a draft
concept and that candidates should not start working on the ticket until the
evaluation process begins. In the meantime, I would like to prepare by learning
more about the architecture of Apache Fineract and contributing to the project
if possible.
Could you please suggest:

  1.
Recommended areas of the codebase to study for this project idea
  2.
Beginner issues that would help me start contributing to Fineract
  3.
Any discussions or design documents related to the Self-Service API concept

Thank you for your time and for maintaining such an important open-source
project. I look forward to learning from the community and contributing to
Apache Fineract.
Best regards,
Minh
