Code which you are showing me should work without the problem.
var tmpComp:Button = new Button(true); - need to be true in constructor.
This:
<mdl:Button text="Click to add External components"
click="button1_clickHandler(event)"
accent="true"/>
You don't need any action cause MDL will handle this one.
